Is the Ban on the Mexican Wave Dodgy?
Published 1 year, 9 months ago in Sport & Leisure.I don’t know about the rest of Melbourne, but here in theĀ Frankston area we’re pretty much in agreeance that banning the Mexican Wave is un-Aussie and the controllers are just asking for a Mexican Wave riot!
Bloody unreal! Why do big organisations always make stupid decisions with these things? It seems like they need a sub-group of Aussies, and i mean your general odd joe blow’s, to go over any final decisions they make before they sign the dotted line.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree?

Actually, I really like the Mexican wave, I have never done it, but it looks fantastic!
I can though relate to what has been happening with bottles being thrown while doing the wave, but I thought that was only a one off - not sure, don’t want to say something that is incorrect.
The moronic idiots throwing hard things like bottles & cans are the ones that are un-australian. They have hurt too many people, who have sought compensation from the event organisers and so the risk management solution is to blanket ban the mexican wave.
I am neither a yobbo nor a drunken lout. But I do enjoy a good old Mexican Wave at a sporting event. It’s a bit of fun and gets the crowd united. The idiots who throw bottles, litter etc, have ruined it for everyone.
My 9yo daughter experienced her first ever Mexican Wave at a concert I took her to last year. She thought it was the most exciting part of the night (more exciting than the concert!). She was shattered when she heard it was to be banned. As I explained to her, unfortunately, like alot of things in life, it’s the minority idiot-fringe who have wrecked it for the rest of us.
Don’t let them take the wave away. Please. I enjoy it and so do many others. If the police can spend so much time looking for the ones who start it the wave, then could they not then spend as much time looking for the fools that throw things. If they ban the wave we are done for. What comes next. Thats right it all starts with the money hungry insurance claimers. I got hit by rubbish give me money… MMMMM we are looseing what we are proud of being good old aussie hulligans. Rat bags that can have a laugh. Now we just go to court and try to claim injury insurance. Maybe we should just stay away from one sporting event. If no one goes then maybe they will see we will wave anyhow. And not pay for there grounds.
